FAQ

My floor is in a poor state, will it look good when it has been sanded?

Yes it will. Most floors look in a bad way when the carpet is lifted. Remember that we will be removing the top layer of the floor revealing the clean wood beneath, and any damaged boards can be replaced.

Will it be dusty?

There is very little dust left as we use the latest dust control system, basically a large vacuum cleaner that all the machines are connected to.

Does the room have to be empty?

Ideally yes, but if this is not possible due to lack of storage or an immovable object such as a piano or a sofa, the room can be sanded in two halves.

What about filling the gaps?

Filling the gaps is a great way to reduce draughts and improve the look of a floor. For more information see repairs and renovations.

Should we decorate before or after the floor is sanded?

Either is possible. We work without damaging the decoration, or the floor can be covered during decoration. We do however recommend that any heavy building work is carried out before sanding.

How long will it take?

A single floor will usually take 2 days. The first day it will be sanded and a first coat of lacquer applied, and on the second day further coats of lacquer are applied.

How long will it last?

It all depends on the level of wear. Typically, 5 years for a busy hallway and upwards of 10 years for a bedroom.

How do I maintain my floor?

Floors can be vacuumed and then mopped with a damp, not wet, mop. We also supply cleaning kits.

What are the benefits of a sanded floor?

  • Easy to clean and does not harbour dust mites, therefore is great for allergy/asthma sufferers.
  • Adds value to your home
  • Resists staining
  • Environmentally friendly as you are effectively recycling your own floor
  • Looks great
  • Brings out the character of your home

How much does it cost?

As a guide, a typical 3.5×3.5 metre room sanded with 3 coats of lacquer would cost from £350. But please do not hesitate to call me, we can usually give an estimate over the phone followed by a written estimate and/or a site visit if required. We do not charge VAT.
